Welcome to Northern California’s Nursery Home Shih Tzu
Located in Redding Northern California, we are a mother & daughter duo who are passionate about breeding their favorite dog breed – the Shih Tzu. We take pride in raising your next furry best friend to complete your heart & home.
My husband Jacobi was a witness to my first breeding in 2014 which he didn,t want to believe his eyes when i had my first litter tiil the 3rd in 2016. From the first litter in 2014, i submerged my toe-by-toe over time, I fully emersed myself in 2016 while taking care of my mom & my mom’s Shih Tzus when She was diagnosed with a heart disease & had three surgeries over the course of 14 months. Thats when my husband joined me in sharing efforts and love for this wonderful breed. Today, we operate our breeding program out of both of our homes which happen to be only 15 minutes apart!
As Nursery Home Shih Tzu, we are committed to raising healthy, happy, beautiful Shih Tzu puppies of all sizes – ranging from mini, Imperial, & Traditional size, in ALL colors. We focus on health (genetic tests & pre-breeding blood tests of our breeding moms & dads being our markers), AKC Shih Tzu standards of beauty (confirmation & coat), & temperament (socialization of our puppies begins at only 3 days old with Early Neurological Stimulation & Early Scent Introduction & continues with noise exposure, intentional daily handling to help them be compliant, potty training, water & grooming exposure, crate desensitization, car rides in a car seat, exposure to different novel textures & toys – steps, slides, toys that dance, make noise, &/or move on wheels, & a plethora of other daily fun activities that helps a pup reach its full potential by increasing nerve strength, confidence, lowering fear levels, & to be trusting of all humans & other dogs).
Our approach to puppy raising is a holistic one – understanding that raising a well-adjusted confident dog begins in its early, formative days. Our program believes in empowering each puppy to reach its full potential & provides each pup with the tools necessary to do so. Whether you are just looking for a companion pet & your new best friend, or you intend to continue training your pup to be task-trained or a service animal, Nursery Home Shih Tzu lays the necessary groundwork for you & gives you a big head start in your training.
Puppies we raise are not able to be rehomed until they have successfully mastered certain socialization criteria & have been given a clean bill of health by our veterinary team. This means that rehoming for certain litters can begin at 10 weeks of age, and for the smallest sizes, it will begin somewhere between 12-14 weeks. Additionally, we believe in the mutual benefit of exclusive face-to-face meetings on our premises – so you can meet & play with your furry best friend prior to making the big commitment – & conversely, we get a chance to get to know you as well.

Our responsibility does not end when a puppy goes home. Nursery Home Shih Tzu offers lifetime breeder support to every family that adopts one of our puppies. Owners are always welcome to reach out for advice regarding health, grooming, nutrition, or general care. By maintaining an open line of communication, we ensure that every Shih Tzu raised through our program continues to receive knowledgeable guidance throughout its life.

Puppies can go to their new homes at 10 weeks. Sometimes we will hold puppies back if they are smaller or not yet ready for transport (generally 11-12 weeks). We wouldn’t support any request below 10 weeks of age.
YES! All of our Shih Tzus come with a 1 year congenital/hereditary written health guarantee as well as 30 days of free ( depending on state ) health insurance.
Most of our puppies regardless of sex, size, are $2500 with just our recommended & provided essential starter kit. With our premium & Elite kit full package, we standardly price at $3250. How ever, some of our puppies with rare features like color type ranges up to $4000. You can learn more about our pricing and what is included on our pricing page.
Yes you can! We have puppies across the United States. You can fly in to pick up your puppy at our local airport, Redding Regional Airport, or we can discuss other options.
Yes, the deposit is applied to the purchase price of the puppy.
All of our puppies are vet checked. We have wonderful relationships with 2 different veterinary clinics & we take every single one of our puppies for a full head to toe veterinary check prior to any rehoming. We usually aim to have the pups checked as close to their go-home date as permitted by ours & our vets schedule.
Our focus is to place our puppies in pet homes on a strict spay & neuter contract. All pets purchased from The Shih Tzu Nursery will need to be spayed or neutered by 1 year of age.
If you are a breeder – we are not opposed to offer breeding rights to established breeders with the expectation that we would buy from your lines as well.
If you plan to breed – we are not able to offer breeding rights to new breeders or inexperienced breeders simply because we do not have the time to mentor others, & offering breeding rights to others would require us to do so. Our contract stipulates strict fines for puppies purchased as pets & bred “accidentally” or intentionally. We keep DNA on all our pets & therefore you should not buy from us with the intention to break your pet contract.
There are mainly 3 Kit sets. The first one which is the essential kit is included in the price, the second kit set which is the premium kit at an addition of +$400 and last the Elite ownership experience kit which comes at +$750.
Payments accepted via PayPal, Cash app, Zelle. Must pay the final balance ONE WEEK BEFORE YOU RECEIVE YOUR PUPPY. Payments by date will be stated on your deposit contract.
Yes, you can. We accept payments the same way we accept deposits. You can make payments whenever you’d like, for however much you’d like throughout the 10 weeks. When we receive a payment, you’ll get an update regarding your payments made and balance due.
If you reserve a spot on a litter and have to back out, we will hold your deposit and reach back out with future litter availability once. If after reaching back out once in an attempt to place you on a litter your deposit will be forfeited.
We actually do! It’s rare now-a-days but we allow people to come meet the puppies & choose their future baby in person! Some people, mainly other breeders, consider us crazy but we have safety protocols in place. If you plan to visit our home, you must be on our waitlist & you must share identification of any adult planning to visit our home. There are no exceptions! We need to protect our home, ourselves, & our puppies.
The microchipping is optional, to who ever is interested, there are extra charges applied and it simply takes a day for the process. Before or after your your puppy goes home with you or comes back later, we are ready.
We can offer AKC limited registration with most of our puppies purchased. We will register, order a 4-generation pedigree, & hold paperwork until spay/neuter has been received by us. The cost for this is $100 which is what AKC charges us & this is paid at the time the puppy is transferred to you.
We would never say no, however, this should be discussed prior to committing to a certain puppy. When you commit to a puppy, you are privy to when that puppy is of age to be rehomed. If the puppy’s timeline doesn’t align with yours, perhaps you should wait for a future litter. However, we understand that life happens. If something has complicated your schedule when your puppy is due to be available to you, please let us know at your first opportunity. Unfortunately, in the past when we have extended the date of pickup, the person has ended up backing out last minute and tacked weeks onto the puppy’s life. If you need to extend pickup, we can do so by 2 weeks if an additional non-refundable deposit is paid on the puppy. If longer than 2 weeks, you will also be charged an additional $50 per day starting on the next calendar day of expected pickup date, for boarding your puppy. Balance of puppy purchase price + boarding fee will need to be paid prior to your puppy leaving our home.
